Launching AI WTF, 12 Hack days across the UK
If you’re in the world of technology or digital transformation, you may have heard of this thing called AI.
AI or artificial intelligence is changing the digital landscape, we found people asking us WTF is AI and with some "hummm", "arrrrgh" or "ok, well it is kinda like" and we couldn’t really answer the question. We realised that AI is just a term and it can mean so many things to so many different people. So instead...
We decided to ask AI WTF can you do for me.
Why do this
We want to show how developers can be empowered to use AI-esk technologies and build solutions to today’s problems however great or small without having a PhD in advanced linear mathematics.
To answer the questions, how does a machine recognise a smile in a photo, or see a pattern in terabytes of data. To discuss the importance of good training data and why all those working on AI technologies have a responsibility to identify data biases.
Of course, we also wanted to share cutting-edge AI that is happening across the world. Things that will inspire us all to build the next amazing solution that solves a problem for someone.
So 12 cities, 12 hack days, what should you expect.
The dates for each city aren’t announced yet. You can register your interest on www.aiwtf.co.uk, and you will get alerted as soon as the details are released.
The hack day
The day itself starts with registration and light breakfast snacks, registration is important if you want to be in with a chance of winning one of the many prizes. Once we have done a quick welcome, you are free to start hacking away if you have an idea you're ready to begin. You can attend as teams or individually, and if you want to team up on the day, you are more than welcome too.
Alternatively, we will start our morning of sessions of talks covering different areas of AI, from vision to speech to biases to deep learning. We will break for lunch around midday (please let us know if you have any dietary requirements) then it is back to hacking and creating. If you don’t have any immediate ideas, there will be sample projects available that you can get started with.
Throughout the day we will be giving away prizes, maybe even some hardware you could add to your hack that day. Once we get near the end of the day, it will be time for show and tell for anyone who wants to share what they or their team have built. Then a quick roundup and thank you to everyone and its time to go home or to the pub.
We would love to hear from you
- If you would like to volunteer at one of the hacks
- You have an AI topic you would like to run as a session
- You would like to speak but don’t have a topic
- You fancy a chat
